St. Pete Beach Dock Builders
St. Pete Beach Dock building by Tampa Dock & Seawall
If you live in St. Pete Beach and are looking for a Dock Builder or seawall contractor for the first time you should know just a few things:
First: It’s vitally important you choose a licensed contractor to build or even repair your dock. Finding a “handy man” dock builder will likely result in a cheaper job done, but also in a cheaper job done. AND code violations, which are no joke in St. Pete Beach!
Next: There are pretty strict building codes and requirements in St. Pete Beach for building a dock – just like in surrounding areas like St. Petersburg and Madeira Beach. So you’ll want to work with a company that has done this before to make sure the design and materials match the code.
There’s nothing worse than getting partway into building a new dock and having the inspector send you back to the drawing board!
Then: Keep Tampa Dock & Seawall in mind that even though in St. Pete Beach, Google’s “dock builders near me” search doesn’t reach the Tampa Dock HQ. Even though headquarters is just 30 minutes from St. Pete Beach.
And we have a “yard” of equipment in Pinellas.
And even though we do a large percentage of our business right in your area. There’s probably a Tampa Dock barge near you right now!
Popular St. Pete Beach Dock Designs
New docks can have many differences. The materials you choose make a big difference. You may have PWCs (personal watercraft) that need mooring space. You might design something with entertainment space… or just a walkway to you boat.
But all dock designs end up generally fitting into one of the shapes below.
As you’re thinking about your new Dock, starting with one of these shapes in mind will give you a jumpstart on the process!
But in the end, which one is right for you depends on several factors:
- What’s allowed in St. Pete Beach [Visit the City building website here]
- HOA Restrictions
- The size and shape of your property
- The number and kinds of watercraft you have
- Your budget
What impacts the Price for a New Dock [Your Budget!]
Look across the canal or over at your neighbor’s dock or deck made from pressure treated lumber that’s more than a few years old.
You can see the pealing, warping and how the surface seems to dry out over time. You can see splits and discoloration in the wood pilings.
And at low tide you might see the damage that’s been done to wood pilings by shipworms all over the Tampa Bay area.
Because of that Tampa Dock is now almost always recommending the following 2 products for docks in St. Pete Beach and the surrounding areas:
EcoPiles and its sister products are replacement for those big wooden pilings. The ones that have been not only naturally deteriorating but suffer badly from shipworm in St. Pete Beach.
EcoPiles are manufactured of a vinyl and fiberglass composite that comes with a TWENTY-FIVE-year warranty. And will be completely free of shipworm, other pests and are not subject to rot.
Made in Jacksonville, FL.
Wear Deck is a replacement for pressure treated wood decking. The pressure treated version IS much less expensive, but it has to be stained, sealed and maintained over the years. Natural lumber is also never exactly the same!
Wear Deck is described as “reinforced polymeric lumber” they use High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) with fiberglass to produce wood-look decking that will literally last a lifetime.
That means no maintenance, no rot, no warping.
And it’s manufactured right outside Gainesville, FL.

Choosing to invest now for better looking and longer lasting dock in the future will impact you budget!
Of course, the bigger the dock, the more pilings and wood are required so your materials cost is higher. And the more of those things that must be installed impacts the amount of labor required to do the installation.
Not typically in St Pete Beach, but sometimes the location of your property or the way it sits relative the water adds a level of difficulty to the job.
Also, in some areas there is construction debris under the soil right outside the seawall. A common practice at some time was to dump construction materials, like cement, right into the water. That can make it twice as hard to drive pilings in. Adds time to the job.
Believe it or not, it’s not too expensive to add things like benches to a dock. But if you decide on a Boat House (which are great!) you will, of course, be investing more.
Just in case you haven’t thought of what happens between your dock and the back door of your house, we need to spend some time on deck and walkway design too.
